Kathleen A. Blanchard, Ph.D. is best known for her two decades of conservation efforts to help restore nesting seabird populations of the Quebec North Shore. An authority in community conservation, she has initiated many successful conservation projects, authored more than 50 technical and popular publications, lectured at approximately 150 conferences and events in several countries, and is currently completing a book about the community approach to conservation. She is recipient of several conservation awards--e.g., the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Society for Conservation Biology. Her work is featured in a CBC television documentary for The Nature of Things with David Suzuki that also airs on The Discovery Channel. Kathleen is a naturalist and conservation problem-solver, an entrepreneur, and a gifted speaker. Her ancestors were pioneers, fishermen, guides, trappers, and seal hunters of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of Newfoundland & Labrador and Cape Breton.

Kathleen has served on the Scientific Advisory Committee for Canada's Endangered Species Recovery Fund and the World Conservation Union Commission on Education and Communication. From 1996 to 2002 she was President of Quebec-Labrador Foundation (Canada), Inc., a bi-national conservation organization, where she worked for 25 years and maintained senior management responsibilities. She has held many board and advisory positions with Canadian and U.S. conservation organizations, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and North American Association of Environmental Education. She has consulted for CBC television, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, Eastern Habitat Joint Venture, National Audubon Society, and other organizations. Kathleen serves as President of Intervale.
